How ForgeSkills courses work, from purchase through to your Certificate of Completion.
Course access
Accessing your ForgeSkills course is simple. Once you purchase a course, you will be prompted to create a free Learner Portfolio if you do not already have one. Your Learner Portfolio provides secure access to your courses, Certificates of Completion, Professional Development Register and learning records.
Course access begins immediately after your purchase has been processed and your Learner Portfolio has been created or linked to your existing account.
Learners have 12 months from the date of enrolment to commence and complete their course. This provides flexibility to study at your own pace and fit learning around work and personal commitments.
Your progress is automatically saved as you work through the course. You can leave the course at any time and return later without losing your completed progress. Simply log in to your Learner Portfolio and select the course to continue from where you last finished.
ForgeSkills courses are designed for online learning and can be accessed using most modern internet-connected devices, including desktop computers, laptops, tablets and smartphones. For the best learning experience, we recommend using the latest version of one of the following web browsers:
- Google Chrome
- Microsoft Edge
- Mozilla Firefox
- Apple Safari
Learning at your own pace
ForgeSkills courses are self-paced, allowing you to study when and where it suits you. There are no scheduled class times, so you can complete your learning over multiple sessions or finish the course in one sitting, provided it is completed within your 12-month course access period.
A reliable internet connection is recommended to ensure course content, assessments and learner records are saved correctly.
Formal assessment
Each course includes a formal multiple-choice assessment designed to confirm the learner's understanding of the course content. Where an answer is incorrect, the learner may review the relevant course material and attempt the question again. The course is completed when all required content has been viewed and every assessment question has been answered correctly.
Learners may reattempt questions they answer incorrectly. The assessment is designed to reinforce understanding while still requiring learners to demonstrate knowledge of the course content.
Course completion
A course is completed once the learner has viewed all required course content and correctly answered every assessment question.
Certificates
Once all course requirements have been completed, a PDF Certificate of Completion will be issued and added to the learner's Learner Portfolio. The course will also be recorded in the learner's Professional Development Register, including the course title, completion date, notional learning hours and assessment type.
Professional recognition
ForgeSkills courses provide non-accredited professional learning. Recognition of course completion by an employer, professional association, regulator, licensing body or accreditation scheme is determined by that organisation. Learners should confirm applicable requirements before purchasing or completing a course.
Learner Portfolio inactivity
The Learner Portfolio is designed to provide active learners with ongoing access to their courses, Certificates of Completion and Professional Development Register. To keep learner records current, Learner Portfolio accounts that remain inactive for 12 consecutive months may be closed. An account is considered inactive when no new course has been commenced and there are no courses in progress awaiting completion.
Before an inactive account is closed, ForgeSkills sends reminder emails 60 days, 30 days and 7 days before the scheduled closure date, so you have time to complete outstanding courses or download the records you want to keep. A closed Learner Portfolio may be reactivated within three months of the closure date by contacting ForgeSkills.
